Working with paper pup creates a cycle: of gathering, breaking down, reforming, drying, and then repeating,  a loop of destruction and reconfiguration. Drawing on the mass-printed Pulp Fiction magazines of the 1930s-1950s UK, Europe, and USA - initially throwaway adventure stories that grew to absorb the era's misogyny and violence - the project engages with the magazine's enduring cultural afterlives in cinema, gaming, and science fiction aesthetics. The deconstruction and physical reassembly, the work both conceptually and physically 'breaks down' these tropes and reimagines them. 'Pulp Fictions' celebrates the cheap, kitch, diy, accessible and collaborative nature of paper pulp as a material, while interrogating the aesthetics of appropriation.
